The method of maximum likelihood is, by far, the most popular technique for deriving estimators.  It is based on finding a function of the data at which the likelihood achieves a global maximum.  In this lesson, the method of maximum likelihood is described and illustrated through three examples.  The final topic is the invariance property of MLEs.
