In this final topic, we consider using the estimated regression line to estimate the mean response at a given value of the explanatory (x) variable. The standard error of this estimated mean response is explained, and a confidence interval for the mean response is obtained. Estimating the mean response is contrasted with predicting the response for a specific individual at a given value of the predictor (x) variable. The standard error of prediction is explained, and a prediction interval is obtained. The end of the lesson compares different properties of the two types of intervals.
