A decision-theoretic approach to evaluating a hypothesis test involves optimizing a loss function whose action space contains only two elements. The loss function is a two-part function that takes the cost of a Type I Error and of a Type II Error into account. The risk - or expected loss - is closely related to the power function. In this lesson, these terms are defined and the risk function is illustrated.
