Educational institutions have sought to reduce inequities across students over several years, but even with these interventions, many underrepresented groups are still falling behind in STEM courses. In particular, first-generation students are one of the most at-risk subpopulations in Baylor Genetics courses. In the fall of 2022, two sections of Genetics courses were reformed using evidence-based practices in an attempt to improve overall student grades and to close the achievement gap between first-generation and non-first-generation college students. This seminar will describe the interventions used and present the results of this study.
