Statistical independence is one of the most important principles in statistics.  In this lesson, the definition of statistical independence is presented, along with examples that illustrate principles of independence as it relates to the probability of intersections, conditional probability, and mutually exclusive events.  Following that is an illustration that the mutual independence of a collection of sets is not a simple extension of the independence of two sets.  Then the definition of mutually independent is presented and illustrated.
